Whether you know him from listening to his music in the ’90s or from pioneering a new generation of electronic music, Moby (Richard Melville Hall) deserves credit for partially creating what we now know as EDM (electronic dance music) or the several cameos he has appeared on. You may not have noticed it was Moby, but he’s a greatly accomplished artist.
It didn’t click off as he first imagined his career to begin, but his first big hit, “Go,” came out in 1991. And his first big album didn’t appear until “Play” debuted in the 2000s, single-handedly changing the music scene as his electronic music was used in commercials and media worldwide. This was a time when electronic music was scarce, and people were unsure what to think of it, but it slowly blossomed into a full-blown career for the talented musician.

Moby’s music took the industry by force after his music began to spread further and wider across the globe.
What I love about Moby is his commitment to creating music he loves, despite it being counter-culture. The nostalgia of his earliest albums also holds a place in my heart. My father played Moby for my siblings and I as we rode to his favorite places, the coffee shop and the bike shop, in his light blue sedan, bumping the whole way. I loved every moment of it as Moby gave us the perfect soundtrack to our sentimental day.
Moby has also been an artist who has stood for noble causes for decades, such as animal rights and veganism (he’s been vegan for 38 years! Very impressive). Moby has also recently opened up his platform for aspiring creators of music, FREE of charge. Just click here to learn more and access his samples. Moby has confidently stood against President Donald Trump and the ICE raids as they have occurred.
Check out Moby if you have some time to sit and listen. This is one that deserves some time to digest and explore.
As always,
Stay fabulous,
Jenna Leigh Berry
